The Celtics in Newport

The Boston Celtics began their weeklong training camp at Salve Regina University on Tuesday and, after the team's first practice, fans and students stood outside the Rodgers Recreation Center to get a glimpse of the world champions, snapping pictures with cameras and cell phones.

While the practices aren't open to the public, team members will likely be seen around town and we'd like to hear about any brushes with fame. Post a comment if you see Paul Pierce at Mudville Pub or spot Kevin Garnett walking down Bellevue Avenue.

I WOULD LUV TO RUN INTO ANY OF THE CELTIC PLAYERS. I WAS THERE THAT NIGHT ON JUNE 17TH 2008, WHEN THEY MADE HISTORY. IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST TIMES I EVER HAD NEXT TO MARRYING MY HUSBAND. I WAS CRYING WHEN THEY WON AND I ALSO HAVE VIDEO. I STILL GET VERY EMOTIONAL WATCHING IT. I LOVE THIS GAME AND OUR CELTICS. YOU GO BOYZZZ!!!!!!!

Are they staying at the Viking or is the Victorian Ladies Inn more their style?

In the interviews they sound mostly clueless about Newport. We have to find a way to get them out and seeing all there is to offer (from a local's perspective to embellish the great tourist hotspots as well).

I wonder if Rondo is checking his Yardbarker blog for Newport suggestions?

A few players were out last night. What a treat! That was awesome dancing at Gas Lamp and chilling. I am proud we have a place that they feel comfortable to go out and just blend in with the crowd (sorta!). We tried to not bother them, but the ladies were really giving them the business! Haha! I just can't believe I called Paul Pierce "James", what in the heck? At least I got "MVP" right!

And I have a very good feeling about Patrick O'Bryant. This is going to be a good year! Leon Powe looked very healthy on the dance floor and same goes for Perk. I think we can handle the East again even with Brand coming over.

My friend and I DJ'd at the Gas Lamp last night and the players were upstairs enjoying themselves from what I saw. KG came up to me and requested some music and I gave him props for their past season, even though, as I told him, "I'm a Lakers fan." He was really cool and they all seemed to enjoy themselves. Great guys. Go Lakers though! ;)
